[Tufts-Nu] HEP Seminar: Wednesday, Apr. 9, 2:30pm

Hello,

We will be hosting Dr. César Jesús-Valls from Kavli IPMU, University of Tokyo from Monday April 7th to Wednesday April 9th. Dr. Jesús-Valls is an experimental neutrino physicist working with the T2K and Hyper-Kamiokande collaborations, focusing on detector development, novel reconstruction algorithms using machine learning, and precision measurements of neutrino interactions and oscillations. His research spans from improving near detector capabilities to exploring astrophysical applications such as supernova neutrino detection.

As part of his visit, he will be presenting an HEP seminar.  This will be on Wednesday April 9th at 2:30 pm in room 402. I plan to arrange lunch with him on Tuesday or Wednesday, let me know if you're interested in coming. Below are the title and abstract for the talk.

Title: T2K to Hyper-K: Navigating the New Frontier of Precision Neutrino Physics

Abstract: After more than a decade of operation, the T2K experiment has been crucial in shaping our current understanding of neutrino physics. To achieve further precision and deepen our understanding of neutrino oscillations, substantial upgrades were completed in 2024, marking the beginning of a new phase of the T2K experiment with enhanced near detector capabilities and increased beam power. In parallel, construction is progressing on the Hyper-Kamiokande detector, scheduled to begin operations in 2027. In this talk, I will review the status of both experiments and their interconnections, discussing their scientific goals and the challenges they face as we enter a new era of precision measurements in neutrino physics.

Sincerely,
Omar
