[Emeriti-faculty] Course syllabi

Friends,

A couple of reminders as you prepare your course syllabi for the Fall:

1)      For courses taken by our undergraduate majors:  Please list on the syllabus which of the department’s learning objectives are addressed by the course.  Those objectives are:

  1. Ability to use mathematics to model, describe and analyze physical phenomena.
  2. Ability to use the experimental method to test theoretical predictions and investigate physical phenomena.
  3. Ability to communicate scientific information and ideas to both technical and general audiences.
  4. Ability to apply scientific concepts and principles in new contexts.
  5. Knowledge of the fundamental areas of physics:
    Mechanics
    Electricity and Magnetism
    Quantum Mechanics
    Thermal Physics

It is not expected that any individual course will address all of them, and it is not necessary to invent or add other objectives, even though your course may have goals beyond those included above.

2)      Please give Shannon a copy of your syllabus (preferably electronic).

These steps are important for the University’s reaccreditation process.

Thank you,

Roger
