(ET) E15 doesn't work, the usual....



New thread so this could possibly be helpful.

Fired up the junker E15 this morning and heard the contactors "chatter" then nothing in speed 1. Checked the control fuse (10a), it had blown.

Replaced fuse, Dropped the panel to check. Board wasn't smoked so gave it a try again. Tractor ran in reverse, no forward, contactors clicking. Looked at the FR relay yep, points are fused in "reverse"

Which means the MOV failed which means the relay got smoked and shorted the field which blew the fuse. Totally normal.

Got out the soldering iron, loosened card 4, removed old MOV, put in new one. Then to the relay.

Normally it would be a replace but I have upgraded to the 3 pole 36 volt relays so this is not my first rodeo. Cut off the copper arm for the field control, then switched the wires to the middle pole set. Closed it up, tractor is running.

The usual E15 fail mode. Man I really love the E20 for their contactor based control. What I should do is wire up some surplus EV contactors in a DPDT mode and use those to replace that relay.

At least they are rated to open and close under load :-)
