Re: (ET) Well that didn't work



Yep. This one was apparently rusted solid. Bent a 1/8 punch trying to drive it out with a 4 pound sledgehammer. No luck. Then tried the drill press at slow speed, nothing, then high speed and the bit caught fire.

I'll just get a new one, this is obviously shot. And it's been bent in the past as well, so time to go.

The pin that keeps the rod from popping out of the sleeve?  Those are roll pins.  Hardened spring steel.  They should drive out with a punch - as long as it is big enough to NOT fit into the inner diameter.  Unless it was very rusty.

Tried driving out the broken shear pin with a drift punch. Bent two punches.

Tried drilling it out and wound up melting two 1/8 drill bits.

Time to get a new shock absorber for the deck.
