Re: (ET) Leaf vacuum attachment

Interesting. I took apart the motor before calling it a day; one of the magnets was attached to the armature. Note: Instead of casting big magnets it looks like they just used 4 large frame motor magnets in the tractor. Interesting.

I have to clean this mess up, but I do have the magnet polarity marked and after everything is clean I'll try re-gluing it. JB-Weld the right thing to use?

The front bearing is *seized*. Is there a tutorial on pulling the bearings and what size these are? It's gonna need em...

Big question is "is the armature shorted"? I'll have to check to ground the windings, if so is there a chart so a motor company could re-wind it? Or I could just bolt an E12 motor on it and call it a day :-)

That looks like a E-8-M / ER-8-36 traction motor. The E-10 motor is longer still.

Darn I had my name servers screwed up. It's been awhile since I have played with this, should be working in a few hours....

Ok, after spending a lot of time with a puller, lots of little bolts (so the puller wouldn't hang up on the blower hole) and oil I got the motor off and the blower part off. Apparently the only bearing on this thing is the one on the motor, and the motor is held to the housing with 4 1/2 inch bolts.

Got my rusty leaf vacuum from Harold last weekend and this weekend I set to working on it. First step was to hose down the bolts with penetrating oil because it's rather... weathered.

Second step was to take the back off the motor. It's a long PM motor, probably the one used in the E10 type tractors. The bearings inside are dry as bones, but some penetrating oil got them moving. That should be enough to test.

The motor is mounted to the tractor by a frame which goes in the stabs and also seems to connect at the hitch tongue. Looks solid enough.

Next step is removing the blower fan and getting the motor off the thing. So far I got the set screw out, I don't see another set screw in there, so it's more penetrating oil and waiting a bit to see if I can tap the motor shaft out. I'm guessing it's on with a woodruff key and the set screw holding it on.

Ultimately I want to use this to vacuum leaves here. I have a big craftsman trailer, anyone know where I can get a tent assembly for it and what kind of hose is best to attach to this thing?
