Re: (ET) Why does our mower mulch better in reverse?

Steve Naugler grafted together an elec-trak leaf vac, a trac-vac, and pieces from other leaf vac systems.  I bought it from Pete when he bought out all of Steve's elec-trak stuff.

My kids named it the Noggler because that was easier to say than "Steve Naugler's electric leaf vacuum".

You can make one by replacing the gas engine on a big tow-behind leaf vac with the main traction motor from a small frame elec-trak.  I think mine uses an e12 motor.

Nothing beats the gas Craftsman set up for leaf collection?  I beg to differ!  I had one. It was OK.

But the I5 dragging the mighty Noggler picks up more leaves, chops 'em finer, and holds roughly ten times as much material.  Admittedly it's ALMOST as loud as a gasser and it's bloody huge, but it's all electric.

And I don't have to run it in reverse, either.

Well, I think one could reverse the arms and mounts and hook the deck up
backwards. The problem is the roller bar would probably get bent when
you hit the first pothole or small tree branch.

Mowing in reverse during leaf season seems to be the best way to go. Mow
forward one row, back up for the row, then do the next one. Cuts down on
the load as you're cutting in one direction, mulching in the other.

Still nothing beats the gas Craftsman tractor, bagger, and a pair of 55
gallon drum liners. Which of course has a dead starter gear again.
