I don't speak for Alltrax, but I'd have to assume that it's at least in 
part 
because it's not really a mass production item.  Well, it sort of is, in 
the 
sense that it's based on a mass-ish production golf car controller, but 
the 
ET version is customized.  

That said, the cost has gone up quite a bit.  I see Jim's price for it is 
now $458.  When Alltrax introduced the DCX-300ET in 2004, it cost $215. 

The 400 amp version, which I don't think they offer any more, was $289.

I have no idea why the price has more than doubled.  Maybe they still 
haven't amortized all those buckets of exploded semiconductors.  It would 
be 
interesting to find out exactly how many DCS-300ETs they've sold though.  
I'd guess it would be in the dozens, rather than hundreds.

I like my Alltrax a lot, but if I were converting an E15 today, I might 
look 
pretty closely at a 4QD.
