Re: (ET) Card 4 woes

Over twenty years ago, an electronics tech and myself tacked flying leads to the board and put Molex® connectors on the end of those leads and the GE existing harness. It's still there and still works.

You haven't LIVED until you have had an Eight Speed E-20 take off in Reverse with full armature current and  full field weakening. :) THAT event is what prompted the fix. <VBG>

The connector to Card 4 on my E20 is intermittent. I've done all the obvious: cleaned contacts, checked for cracked tracks, torn pads, etc. I think it's time to really fix it. I don't want to be messing with this in the middle of a snowstorm this winter.

I'm thinking:
1. Replace the connector. The board and it's contacts aren't so great though - could also replace the board... but it's just not a great connector system.
2. I could just directly solder everything; I certainly would if there were solder pads with holes or some way to strain relieve the wires.
3. Design a new board with pads and/or a better connector system.

Anyone had this problem and what did you do to fix it?

No, I'm not ready to convert to solid state. yet.

Thanks,
