Re: (ET) Elec-trak Digest, Vol 13, Issue 103

Re EM10 problem. Check rear axle mounting bolts and position of axle if flanges have elongated slots. Also check Motor mount bolts. The axle sliding when going up slope could cause the problem. Adrian

 My son-in -law has been working on an E10M that I gave him.

He purchased some parts, including a new drive belt.

I am now trying to work the bugs out of it, and here's my problem.

 The tractor seems fine on flat ground, but when you come to even a slight grade, the belt wants to slip.  The belt seems to be awfully loose with the clutch disengaged. The strange part of this problem is that when you engage the clutch on flat ground, it still wants to keep creeping along. I've fooled with adjusting the clevis rod that is tied to the clutch, but nothing seems to help.

Bought this tractor used, so I would like to first verify a few things.

 - Rear Pulley at Transaxle is 6" dia. x 1/2" wide belt width.

 - Motor Pulley is 3" dia. x 5/8" wide belt width.

 - Idler Pulley is 4" dia x 3/4" wide for top of belt to ride on.

 - New 1/2" x ?? belt.

If all of the pulleys look correct, I'm out of idea's on how to correct this.

Any help would be appreciated;

Dennis

         Since that has a/" Brutch/ " pedal, looking at the brake and
how it is actuated is where I would start my search. Have Homeowner's
Service Manual  at the ready. :)

    Actually, some of the submodels are different in how the linkage/mount works with the brake switch and braking assembly, but there's a few things you can check.?
There's a return spring for the clutch pedal that attaches to a clamp on the right axle tube. Make sure it is attached to the linkage correctly and that the brake caliper adjustment is good. The adjuster will limit the travel of the whole assembly. It is also possible the spring needs replaced, which Jim Coate has in stock. You could also check with him on the length of the belt to see if it is correct. I don't have any new belts to measure.
I would also jack up the differential and spin it over by hand, in gear and out of gear. Check for slop in the axles and drive pulley.
