(ET) E15 and 20 better, thanks to PARTS

Got the contactor and reversing light on Saturday and put them in the E20 and E15. Now the E20 has a little reverse indicator that works, which means the problem was that burned Molex pin all the time. When I get some time this fall I'll replace the pin permanently and install new transistors so it knows when to drop out speeds 5-8.
For the E15 I did a couple of things. First I put in the new 2A
contactor, getting the old one out was easy because GE used excellent
parts. However it is completely rusted due to the god knows what that
was in there while it was buried in a compost pile. Anyway, with the new
contactor in I now have speeds 1,2,3 in reverse, all the speeds in
forward, and the tractor seems pretty happy.
New shift knob because the old one literally fell apart. Then it was
time to figure out why it would not shift from LL/L to D,D2. Figured it
might be the transmission oil so I took off the plugs and let the old
oil drain out.
That seems to be the problem: Instead of 64 ounces of 85/130 gear oil,
the transmission case was filled with about 32 ounces of chocolate
pudding! There was only a little metal on the magnet in the plug, no
chunks in the pudding, so I closed it up and filled it with 64 ounces of
fresh oil.
Darn, it now goes into the higher gears. I think I'll leave it in D for
awhile, and enjoy it. That is probably the right amount of speed at this
point.
Next up will be to fix the lift wiring, and put in some more batteries
maybe. I still have about 120 NiCDs in the truck, 60 of them can go in
the E15. Then who knows, maybe I'll try letting it be the snow blower
runner this winter: Worst that happens is the frame breaks in two or
something. :-)
