Or, remove the timer and replace with a Landis charge controller. $40 and you can plug it in and forget it (for the most part). The charger will "trickle" while being on for that long, however, it's not easy on the capacitors. They usually start to bulge after getting too hot, and after too long, they will short/open and usually knock one or both diodes out.

I guess that's why people call the stock charger the "battery boiler"?      :)
