The pointed "mulching" part of the Gator-type blades may not move as much air as the solid blades also. This would provide less drag, which would help the keep the amp draw down. It may add some turbulence if you want to get real technical, but come on...it's a mower deck! =)

I think rpm is important. If you google mower tip speed you will find there are codes that limit tip speed (19,000 ft per min). Also many of the blades for gas mower decks are much heavier and draw lots more power as they move lots more air. Finding a light, well balanced blade will be helpful. Given you can find the right blade you might be fine with a standard motor from a 42 inch deck.

Well let me fill in the gaps. I have a fantastic John Deere 50'' deck shell that is begging to be converted into electric. The standard deere blade size for that deck is 17-3/16". Now i know the ER8-36 deck takes 18 inch blades. I do not have ER8-36 deck motors, but i do have the standard 42'' deck motors. So elec-trak deck motors + john deere deck/blades = 50'' elec-trak deck?
