Alas, the days of $45 and $50 golf car batteries seem to be over.  :-(

For years, "price sensitive" (aka "frugal" or "cheap" ;-) road EV owners 
have bought golf car batteries at Sam's Club.  I'm not a member, and never 
have been, but their website says my local store wants $89 each.
