Do not use a metal putty knife, if you scratch the paint then it will rust for sure. I use a rubber spatula or a stick.
All of this only works if you have good paint on the deck. If it’s bare metal then keep water and wet grass away from the deck.

I agree with John, I was always told never to wash a deck out with water as it causes corrosion with the nutrients in the grass clippings. Scrap out the clippings with a putty knife after they have dried somewhat. |
