Lithium batteries are a hot topic of discussion on the electric vehicle
discussion list. If you'd like to learn more, you can get more info on
subscribing at http://www.evdl.org/

FWIW, Valence makes a drop-in lithium replacement for marine batteries,
called the U-charge, which several owners of Solectria Forces are using
quite successfully. As I understand it, they come with built-in charge
management system and require no special charger. I don't think U-charge
is
made in golf car size, but there's a 100 amp hour, 12v group 24 module,
which will fit ETs. Check with Valence to make sure they can be used in
series-parallel before purchasing.

However, cost will be a shop-stopper for most folks. The Valence group 24
U-
charge batteries cost $1,500 >each<.
