Re: (ET) lift motor ground fault found

How to take apart a lift motor:

First you take off the great big gear in the front. Pull it; it will come out. This exposes the worm gear.

Then you put the thing into a vise, then take out the three rear bolts. Might want to use a knife to get some of that rubber crud off first. The key here is to use a good socket, get it firmly on the bolt, and turn slowly with constant pressure. Don't jerk it; even steady pressure.

Once the three bolts are out then run a knife along tthe front seam. Put the front in a vise and rock the back part back and forth gently while using slow and steady pressure. It will come apart; as it does use the knife to remove the goo. Don't pull it off because...

The worm gear will probably be stuck in the housing. This will cause the armature to rip thru the brush holder assembly. Instead once it starts to come apart use a needle nose pliers or a screwdriver to push the worm gear/armature loose in the top housing. Takes a bit; be patient.

Then off comes the top, then use a needle nose pliers to disengage the two clips and get the brush holder loose. Remove tension on the brush springs. Then use a good soldering iron to remove the wire that is soldered to the bottom of the brush assembly, by the breaker.

Then go from there :-)
