That's an easy one. The PM motor has the same diameter as the fat mower 
motors(4.5"), just 3 times longer. The shunt
motor is much bigger, about like 3 lb coffee can, but longer.  Oh, and on 
some models the PM motor also has two big
and two small wires. The two small ones go to a centrifugal switch.

Anybody have a source for motor magnets?
