RE: (ET) Lift motors from cars - Superwinch

I have used a cheap ebay winch for about a year.
I use it for mower and a snow blade.
The orginal in/out switch has crapped out and I am looking for a
repacement.
Also there has been some seperation between the motor and the reel. I am not sure whats happening here, but it will probably come completely apart before long.
Maybe paying more for better quality is the way to go.
On the plus side, it works much better than the nylon winch.

Hi Shannon,

I looked at that one and eventually got me a similar one from
ebay ....
experiences:
- was louder than the warn winch I have now for $140 and
  not as good build
- did the job in lifting even heavy implements fine
- DID NOT HOLD the heavy implements up, now this may
not be an issue for the mower deck as it is light, but
it was for my bucket application
- Possible remedy: shorten the leads to the motor when
not in use (same as with the mower motors) so it will have
a dynamic brake - but that may cost you another $20-30 in
  contactors.
- You will also need contactors if you want to continue to
use the built in switch for this winch, but that is true
for any winch - a fork lift reversing contactor will do the
trick, plus a second one for turning it on

back to your question: I think for the mowing deck it will be fine
and hold it of the ground (maybe slowly creep back down)

It has power in and out which is important.

Watch out with these higher powered winches, they don't stop
until something breaks if you keep them going. E.g. my first one
pulled at a bad angle until basically it couldn't go anymore,
by the time I realized it it had bend the 1/4" steel it was hooked
up to as well as the rear part of the ET frame and then broke
the gear train in the winch. I got a new winch under warranty
but ... well I am more careful now. Plus they put a heavy load
on just 2 batteries, so you may imbalance you pack significantly,
- just things to watch out for.

Hope this helps.

Markus
