Re: (ET) HL-Controller vs The E-meter
I believe I have said here before that, IMO, the Landis controller may be
useful for maintaining batteries that sit for long periods of time, or
which have
to bear small continuous load (DC:DC converter, perhaps an E-Meter), but I
don't believe it should be the only charge controller.
I don't think his algorithm is an appropriate choice for carrying out a
cyclic
charge. (He and I have discussed this quite a bit in private emails and
I'm
still not convinced - sorry, Harry).
In my view, some other method - even one as simple as the GE timer -
should be used to bring the pack to full charge. An automatic golf car
charger that implements a dv/dt algorithm, such as a Lestronic, would be a
good choice. Then the Landis controller might be allowed to take over if
high
self-discharge is likely, such as on an old pack; or if there is a small
continuous load on the pack (DC:DC converter or E-Meter).
This is my opinion, but I believe it's an informed one. I base it on Mr.
Landis's description of his controller's operation, NOT on my personal
experience, as I don't own one.
