I wasn't trying to convince you to by a series controller.  It would be a waste of energy to turn on the field all the time.
 
Our soon to be released Sep-X controller would be the most efficient for the E12 if it has a separate low current field winding.  The new controller adjust the field and the armature current based on the load and throttle position which helps to maintain constant speed.
 
Does anyone have any details on the E12 motor I could look at?

I think you just convinced me that your controller could work on an E12 since on these the shunt field is always full on and the motor would look more or less like a PM motor to the controller...Bob

You are correct for the most part.
 
The motors I'm familiar with on the E15's are basically shunt wound motors.  That means field and armature has different requirements.  A series controller cannot be used on a shunt wound motor because it has a single output stage that sees the series connected field and armature of a series motor as one load.  A series controller can be used on PM motor though because it looks like a series motor to the controller.
 
A shunt or Sep-X (separately excited field) controller has two output stages and each are controlled separately, based on the load applied to the motor.
 
The E15 motor has two single loop windings in series with the field to cut down on brush arching. 
 
Alltrax Series controllers are designed to handle the extremely low resistance that a series motor represents to any controller.  Series motors are the preferred motor when you want high starting torque because they have the most torque at stall or zero speed and our controllers are designed to handle that high initial current requirement.

Someone else on the list has a better understanding of the motors, but my understanding is that they are only slightly series, they're mainly shunt motors with a compensating series winding to help hold speed as load increases.  I think they'd need the same type of controller as a shunt or PM motor. 
 
Aside from not having a specific output for the shunt field, is there anything about the Alltrax controller that's specifically intended for a series motor?

If the E12's use a series motor we already have controllers for that.  We
make a range of models and current ratings that vary in price accordingly.

  Our original SERIES Golf Car controllers were designed to replace the
Curtis 1204 and 1205 series controllers

I can vision a less expensive kit for the E12's that could include the
appropriate SERIES controller, main fuse, throttle control, fwd/rev switch,
wiring and instructions.
