(ET) Rear end

Hi all, 

While on the subject of rear ends, so to speak, my E20's has been leaking 
lately. I've noticed since it has become warmer (90-100 here in 
Sacramento) that there is a softball size spot of oil under the rear end 
after moving it from one place to another and left overnight.  My question 
is: what usually degrades to allow the oil to escape?  Is there a gasket 
between the differential halves that could be suspect?  Any help would be 
much appreciated.
