You will get lots of opinions on this.  There is a battery "strap" that has
metal ends that sort of jam fit on the terminals and allow lifting.
Generally discouraged since they may break the terminal post free of the
case, causing fatal battery damage.  I use batteries that have a lifting 
tab
molded into the edges of the case.  This allows a lifting handle to be
applied to the case, not the terminal.  Better solution.

I don't have a lifting handle, so I snap vice grips on the case tabs to
lift.

 I would think that lifting a battery with a straight up force on the
terminals would be kinder than using a lifting strap which puts a
considerable side force on the posts, so when lifting batteries with no 
case
tab, I have used two sets of vice grips on the posts applied from directly
above, so that when I lift, the force is all vertical.  So far no damage,
but ya never know.  I wonder how long a piece of nylon strap would last if
you left it wrapped around the battery as a lifting device when you replace
batteries?

One you get the first one out, the rest are not as difficult.

Peter, you seem knowledgeable in the Elec-trak battery field and I need
help.

I need to pull the batteries from my E12M and its been 11 years. I can't
remember how to do this as you can't get your hands around them. I used to
work with some auto mechanic people and they may have lent me something, 
but
am retired now and can't remember how to do this with no special type of
tooling. I can send you front and back pictures if you need them of my
problem.

My initial thoughts was to free the cables off one end and yank it up high
enough to get my hands around it but am kind of scared without talking to
somebody. I remember the other remaining batteries (3 in the seat and one 
in
front) were a piece of cake after the initial removal.

I could put this out on the Electrak forum, but its probably so simple I'm
afraid to clutter peoples email.

Can you help me? Or please reply and tell me to forum post it if you feel 
it
requires good press. I just need to get them out of there.
