I had a noisy transmission, but found it easier to buy a better used one
than rebuild. Oil level is critical - it sould be filled to the top - this
involves rotating the removed transmission so that the filler plug is
facing
up to fill it!
On your poll, I prefer a rear dischange mower because I drag a lawn sweeper
behind to pick up clippings, and this makes for a more-or-less one pass
operation.
