This may be old hat to some or trivial to others, but I thought I'd
mention what I figured out when I decided to do some maintenance on my
E20 yesterday.
(1) I opened up the panel just below the console. There, I found 2
large wires had been crunched -- both salvageable -- by the steering
gear. I taped the wires tightly into place.
(2) I was tracing wires under the tractor, and I discovered one had been
worn down by the drive belt -- again salvageable. It was just hanging
loose, so I put it into the bracket that was holding the other wires.
(3) Rear battery box: Batt3's + terminal was melted about a 1/3 way
down, like it had been soldered. Could this be due to the worn wires,
or perhaps a wire contacting the tractor body?
(4) I greased all of the steering and front wheel assemblies. Oh boy,
does it have easy steering now! However, I also noticed some hairline
fractures in one of the struts used to steer. What causes that?
(5) I went to trace the wires used by the lights, horn and controlls.
The lighs & horn were easy enough, but the controls are a maze of
wires. I need to find out which wires I can disconnect and reconnect to
a 12V battery. Does anyone know which wires I need to reconnect to get
the controls onto a separate 12V battery?
