Re: (ET) Mower blades

Do you guys realize that you are trying to use and maintain a machine that is 30 years old? The fact that there is anyone around to sell parts is amazing. And I am sorry, his prices are not out of line. Go buy a mower deck for a John Deere, see what that sets you back. In fact, go try and buy a mower deck for a 30 year old John Deere. Good luck! The parts business has always been expensive and always will be. The little extra effort of Dealing with Bill is worthwhile simply to keep the knowledge base and parts base intact. And what a joy to get parts that just go in without experimentation or modification.

Why does so many people want to buy from everybody else. Very simple reasons: (1) Never put all of your eggs into one basket. In the computer biz, this is called "single point of failure". (2) Additional cost & time: If I buy from a local store, I pick up the product, pay, go home. If I buy from Bill, I have to make a long distance call, order, send payment somehow, in that payment also includes an additional cost for shipping, and I have to wait for the product to arrive. There is a big difference. So, in my book, it is _always_ better to buy locally then to order from a far away source, be it an Internet company, eBay, or Bill. I have nothing against Bill, but I don't want to be forced to use him if it costs me more money or more time, and if it means never finding that alternative source -- if I don't find the alternative source (preferrably local), than if&when Bill is unavailable* I'm left stranded with no solution. * note, he could become unavailable for any number of reasons: vacation, sick, disability, gone out of business, death, etc... -Jeremy
