Very simple reasons:
(1) Never put all of your eggs into one basket. In the computer biz, this is called "single point of failure".
(2) Additional cost & time: If I buy from a local store, I pick up the product, pay, go home. If I buy from Bill, I have to make a long distance call, order, send payment somehow, in that payment also includes an additional cost for shipping, and I have to wait for the product to arrive. There is a big difference.
So, in my book, it is _always_ better to buy locally then to order from a far away source, be it an Internet company, eBay, or Bill.
I have nothing against Bill, but I don't want to be forced to use him if it costs me more money or more time, and if it means never finding that alternative source -- if I don't find the alternative source (preferrably local), than if&when Bill is unavailable* I'm left stranded with no solution.
* note, he could become unavailable for any number of reasons: vacation, sick, disability, gone out of business, death, etc...
