hi folks,  i've seen some paint on electraks that appears to be as sound 
as 
the day it was put on.  its hard to improve on that.  in cases where 
there's 
rust however i clean with wire brush, sand paper, sometimes baking soda to 
neutralize battery acid, and pore 15 or equivalent, before final coat, 
coats. 
its too soon to say how long this method lasts, 5 years so far.  
    its probably a good idea to give the inside of the battery 
compartments a 
thorough checking, cleaning, and maybe painting, every time the batteries 
are 
changed.  so many of these machines have lasted this long with little or 
no 
care.  with the care they deserve, they might go hundreds of years.  ?
