RE: (ET) What's an elec-trak worth in Ontario, Canada?

Hi
I am in Grimsby, Ontario and have 2 E12s. (Note US guys, the Canadian
dollar
is only worth about 60 cent US). I am going to quote CDN dollars for the
rests of the note). Also my prices are based on my Southern Ontario
Observations. So some of the prices for stuff are going to seem really high
and despite free trade it cost just a ton of money to ship things across
the
border, because it is consider "international" buy the Post Office and
Couriers. (yes this sucks)

If the guy selling the tractor is named John (as in John's Used Tractors)
and he is near Kitchner. It is in fact a New Era 150 and it is a drop dead
gorgeous, I've seen the machine it was at the Antique Tractor Show last
spring, it is ready to go and in very very good condition. It also has
tire
chains and a cap with side curtains that are in good condition.
He was asking $2500 for it and I was tempted, there was some other Ontario
E
tractor types there and we felt that it was a bit high but, considering the
condition of the tractor he would likely get the $2500 he was asking at
that
time. Now he asking $2000.(he is not dreaming and I am tempted). It ran
well
and we were all tempted but a little short on cash at that time.

I've paid $400 US- $600CDN (with a mower) and $600US -$1000CDN (mower and
a
blower) for two my E12 and had to drive to Albany and New York to pick
them
up (another $200 on top). One was with out batteries and took 6 months to
get running, and the other is nice shape and I think I got a real deal on
it.
Did I pay too much? Well.
There was an operational New Era 8 for sale at Berg's in Wainfleet
Ontario, He was asking $800. If you get a tractor without batteries 6 new
one will cost $600. If you need to do any or restoration work start
counting
by $50 because all the parts come from the states and have to cross the
border.

Before you reject $2000 as way too high, Consider- if it is the tractor I
saw or it is in very good working condition, and shows less than expected
wear for a 25 + year old tractor. Start the negotiations.

If you don't get it for the price you want let me know I might make
him and offer. (my wife going to kill me).

For the American folks.
$2000 CDN is only $1250 US I just did the conversion. If this is the
machine
I saw at the show and I think it is. This is a good buy. So, If Fred or I
don't buy somebody should.

P.S. it fit in the back of a full sized pick-up. I know cause I helped load
it.
Also Fred, where are you? E-mail me directly and we can talk.

Subject: (ET) What's an elec-trak worth in Ontario, Canada?

Someone local to me in Ontario, Canada is selling a Elec-trak with
a
snowblower and lawnmower attachment, in working order. He says that
it is a
model 150, but from reading on the Internet, he must mean E15.

I've spent a bunch of time reading the archives at
        http://groups.yahoo.com/group/elec-trak and haven't found many
prices in
this area to compare against, and I'm wondering what a fair offer
would be.

(The guy is dreaming, I think, because he's asking $2000 CDN for
it.)
