Subject: (ET) intro: just bought E-20 and 2 questions

Hi Folks,

i'd like to introduce myself as a new proud owner
of an E-20. i live in Wheaton which is 27 miles
due west of Chicago. i look forward to becoming
part of this great e-community of people that are
fond of and knowledgeable about Elec-Trak's.

Is there a resource on the web somewhere that describes
what is different in the different E- series models ?
i think the E-20 is a bit wider than like an E-12 and seems
to have a much larger main drive motor.

E12, E15 and E20 were all GE full frame models (E12S was not).
Full frame models can ALL take any of the implements from one
another.

The width is pretty much just the tire size differences. The
frames are the same. All E20's have a cast front axle as well,
but I have seen the cast front axle on E15's too. Front tires
are wider on E20 & most E15 as well.

i need to either buy a new mower blade shaft or a new
mower motor (can't tell which is bad yet). Are the
equivalent of the original motors available nowadays,
or do i need to find an OEM-like motor ?
Thanks!

There is NO OEM-like motor. There is no substitute for the GE
permanent magnet motor used. There were 3 major types of motors
used, and all 3 are interchangeable. Bill Gunn has all 3. Most
likely failure is worn brushes, but bearings and broken magnets
are also common. Brushes and bearings are cheap; magnets are NOT.
Bill can rebuild as well.

Kind regards,
ted
