I have one and yes, it's a brush-type motor. Actually, it is a standard
Remington electric chainsaw with a shorter chain bar and a handle adapter
that allows you to work it from the end of the pole. Remove the pole and
you have a neat little short-bar electric chainsaw. Pretty slick rig for
the price (<$100).
