The good news is that Electric Tractor Corp. of Canada is still in
business.
The bad news is that they've changed their product range.
ETC for some time offered the only new electric garden tractors made.
They were sophisticated machines, with microprocessors controlling wheel
motors for zero turning radius, and had a price tag to match: Cdn$8000
(well under US$6000). There was a mower deck, and a cheaper tractor with
conventional steering.
ETC has discontinued both the mower deck and the ZTR tractor, and has
repositioned the conventional-steering tractor as an industrial tug.
It's now called the "Electric Ox."
See
http://www.electrictractor.com/
for more information. Oddly, all the dealers they list which have
webpages are greenhouse supply vendors. (??)
I suppose the person who wants a new electric tractor could still buy an
"Electric Ox," and adapt a conventional mower deck (or a used ET deck) to
it. Other than that, your choices have narrowed to finding a used ET or
converting a gas tractor.
So it goes.
