We started the second forum because the original Dan Barry site was essentially no longer working. No new accounts could be created, and there were a few other problems. Several people made several different attempts to get a hold of Dan including emails, phone
calls, and snail mail. The assumption was something happened to Dan, and the decision was made to create a second site, after trying to scrape as much as we could from the old site.

Well we spun up a new site, and Dan came out and fixed his old site. So there were two. I started with about 5 admins, and that quickly dwindled down to just myself. A few months back i got a "Why does this site exist" email from a user who pointed out that
there were two facebook pages already and the original web site. The majority of new user accounts were for posting "for sale" ads. I have no affiliation with the old site, and if i knew that it was going to disappear again i would have kept the second site
up.<br>

After posting on here, I had a few people reach out to me with interest in taking over the site, but i did not receive any follow ups until after the site was shutdown. As for the domain name i still own it and would be more than happy to transfer to anyone
who would like to take it over.<br>

Perhaps a little history review is in order, at least as I know it. <br>
There are TWO forums out there and only one has been intentionally shut <br>
down:<br>

Back in 2001 or 2002 Dan Barry started the first web-based Elec-Trak <br>
forum at elec-trak.org and also under the elec-trak.com name. He has <br>
kept it going all these years (a thankless task only noticed when it <br>
stops working!) and as of December 2018 was doing a software rebuild to <br>
slow down the hackers. I'm don't know if the current error message means <br>
it got hacked again on what.<br>

In 2013 (at the peak of George B's excitement), some folks splintered <br>
off and started a second Elec-Trak forum at ge-electrak.com. As RJ <br>
noted, David Plamondon posted in November 2018 of his intent to shut <br>
that site down the first of January this year given the lack of users. <br>
There is a good chance that once he allowed the domain name to expire it <br>
was immediately snarfed up by a "squatter".<br>

I'll try and get hold of Don Barry later this week and find out what is <br>
up with his site which has the more extensive archives. I'm not sure how <br>
much "our numbers are down" and how much we are just much more spread <br>
out now... it went from just this e-mail list (started in 1998 or maybe <br>
earlier) to one then multiple dedicated web forums, then Facebook, plus <br>
general garden tractor forums with sub-sections on electrics and more. <br>
Too many places in the virtual world to keep track of!<br>
