Pittsburgh Area Meeting, 14 October

Here's a reminder, and further information, about the upcoming area
meeting in Pittsburgh, the weekend of Saturday, 14 October.

For early arrivals ringing starts Friday evening, 7:00 to 9:00. Those
interested will adjourn afterwards to my place (a twelve minute walk
from the church) for beer and whatever following the evening ringing.

Ringing Saturday starts at 10:00 am. Pastries, coffee, etc will be
available in our capacious, air conditioned ringing room.

Lunch will be served in Southminster House (a 30 second walk from the
church) from 12:00 until 1:00. It'll be sandwiches and so on. We'll be
asking for a small contribution towards the cost of lunch, the exact
amount to be determined once we know how many folks will be there.

Ringing resumes at 1:00, and runs until 3:00, when we need to stop to
get out of the way of a wedding.

Preceding and/or following each chunk of the day's ringing will be
tours of the tower and demonstrations of ringing for interested
locals. We've tried to arrange some publicity, and are hopeful this
can be turned into a useful recruiting exercise, too.

Ross has asked that folks swot up two special methods for the weekend:
Lessness Surprise Major:

and St Clement's College Bob Triples:

(Note that St Clement's Triples is *not* the same as St Simon's
Triples.) For the weekend any calls in St Clement's Triples will be
the same as Grandsire bobs and singles.

After the conclusion of Saturday's ringing those not needing to get on
the road quickly, or otherwise engaged, are invited to join together
for a meal at Sesame Inn, a Chinese restaurant that is a five minute
walk from the church. We'll make a suitable reservation when we get a
head-count Saturday afternoon.

If anyone is still around on Sunday there is service ringing from c.
12:00 until 12:30. We're sorry that it will not be possible to extend
it on this occasion, owing to the constraints of a peal attempt and
the timing of the flights home of two members of its band.

Southminster Presbyterian Church has an 8cwt ring of eight, and is in
Mt Lebanon, five miles south of downtown Pittsburgh, at the corner of
Washington Road and Castle Shannon Boulevard. There is ample parking
in the church's parking lot. It is also easily reached by public
transportation from elsewhere in Pittsburgh. Here's a map:

It's looking likely that we will have a good turn out, with some folks
currently planning on coming from at least each of Boston, Brewster,
Kalamazoo, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington. We'd love to
have you join us, too!

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact our Ringing
Master, Ross Finbow <rjfinbow hotmail com>, or myself.

but more like the fantasy of gold, the fairy dream that the
gold is there, at the end of the rainbow, and will continue
to be there forever--provided, naturally, that you don't go
and look. This is known as Finance."
