Title:

Adventures in Perturbation Theory

Abstract:

I will describe some of the main ideas and key discoveries that have led to an ongoing revolution in our understanding of the mathematical structure underlying quantum field theory and our ability to use QFT to make predictions for experiments. In particular, I will describe how locality, unitarity, and physicality (e.g. gauge-invariance) lead directly to a new geometric understanding of perturbative scattering amplitudes in gauge theory and gravity, and how this understanding has transformed the way that amplitudes are computed today.
