August 28, 5:00pm Tufts University Celebration of the Life of Jacob (Jack) Schneps Granoff Music Center, Distler Performance Hall, 20 Talbot Ave, Medford, MA 02155 Professor Emeritus Jack Schneps held the Vannevar Bush Professorship in the Tufts University Department of Physics and Astronomy from 1995 until his retirement in 2011. Specializing in experimental particle physics, Jack built the research
team that became Tufts High Energy Physics, served as principal investigator of the group for 20 years, and was co-director until his retirement. His early work focused on the lifetimes and properties of so-called “strange” particles and led to one of the
first university base grants for experimental particle physics research from the Atomic Energy Commission, the precursor to the Department of Energy. Jack’s later work resulted in important collaborations between Tufts and outside research entities including
the BMST (Brandeis-Maryland-Syracuse-Tufts) collaboration. This event is hosted by the Tufts University Chaplaincy. For more information, please call 617-627-3427. |
