Abstract:

This talk will expand on some of the things I discussed at Alan's birthday conference last week: how is the intrinsic non-locality in the AdS/CFT correspondence consistent with the apparent locality of bulk effective field theory? I will explain how this works in a few simple models, and also relate it to the to famous Ryu-Takayanagi formula. I view understanding these things as a prerequisite for understanding quantum gravity in de Sitter space.
