New Institute of Cosmology graduation ceremony

On August 11, 2005, Vitaly Vanchurin was the first graduate student to receive his doctorate with the new Tufts Institute of Cosmology graduation ceremony.

In the ceremony, shown below, Institute director Alexander Vilenkin dropped an apple onto the head of Dr. Vitaly Vanchurin, in hopes that he might be inspired in the manner of Isaac Newton. The ceremony was performed in front of the "antigravity stone".
